The Natural Resources Defense Council uses 5 cities to highlight 5 examples of how the implementation of smart growth features can create better places. They uses Memphis as the example of "Smart on a Small Scale" to show how a few changes can really transform a neighborhood. Take a look at the Memphis scenario. It makes it easy to envision your community tree lined, landscaped, infilled, walkable, and bustling with neighbors.
(Thanks, Smart City, for pointing out the study!)

We need this type of inititative in more California coumnmities!!! Sadly, California remains the leader in pedestrian and bicycle accidents causing injury or death. As more and more people trade in their cars for bikes, etc., I can only imagine this trend will continue. If walksacramento.org would like for a journalist at our to write a blog for your site to help promote awareness, we'd be happy to do so. Something else we have noticed in our reporting is that texting while driving has quickly become one of the most dangerous driver distractions on the road, resulting in many deaths to drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. PLEASE DO NOT TEXT WHILE DRIVING!
