In October 2014, MEMFix: Edge District highlighted the history and current trajectory of the Edge
as an incubator for production and a vital link between Downtown Memphis and the Memphis Medical Center, with anchors representing arts, production, culture, and services. With a strong place in Memphis history, momentum growing among business owners, and new focus brought about by the Rose Fellowship’s Innovation District and the Downtown Memphis Commission, the Edge was ripe for the kind of vibrancy and facilitated imagination MEMFix delivers.
The Edge District Neighborhood Association formed following the MEMFix event to build on the momentum, while the artist-led group Collabortory convened to push arts to the forefront of conversations about the future of the Edge.
Memphis, in partnership with the Memphis Mayor’s Innovation
Delivery Team, was awarded a grant in 2013 by the US EPA to deliver a
series of innovative projects that highlight the redevelopment
potential for some of Memphis’ core neighborhoods, funding South MEMFix and MEMFix: Edge District.
